Injury and Disablity Schemes Seminar 2025 call for abstracts

The 2025 Injury and Disability Schemes Seminar call for abstracts for is now open! 

We seek abstracts that go beyond theory to deliver practical insights and real-world impact. The Organising Committee particularly welcomes submissions that feature candid stories, real examples, lessons learned from both successes and failures, innovative practices with demonstrated results, clear impact metrics of initiatives, data-driven approaches, and applications that extend beyond specific schemes to offer broader relevance.

Submissions close at 5pm on 20 June 2025.

Abstract suggestions

You'll find possible topic suggestions below — however, all topics will be considered. Abstracts must be submitted by 5pm 20 June 2025 to be considered. The Actuaries Institute will notify you whether your abstract has been submitted in July 2025. 

Suggested topics include:

1. Navigating Change: Schemes in transition  
  • Workforce evolution: Changing nature of the workforce, changing demographics, remote work implications, gig economy impacts, mobility evolution 
  • Reform landscape: Legislative changes, regulatory shifts and policy reforms across schemes  
  • Political dynamics: Government priorities, election impacts, stakeholder influences  
  • Cross-jurisdictional comparisons: Different approaches to reform, lessons learned, best practices  
  • Emerging risks: New injury types, changing risk profiles, future challenges  
  • Innovative coverage models: Experimental approaches, international innovations, flexible designs  
2. System Integrity and Sustainability  
  • Provider behaviour & management: Performance monitoring, incentive structures, quality assurance  
  • Claim streaming methodologies: Triage approaches, risk-based allocation, specialised handling  
  • Operational efficiency: Process optimisation, resource allocation, measuring effectiveness  
  • Service transformation: Reimagining claimant journeys, integrated service ecosystems, human-centred design  
  • Fraud detection & prevention: Advanced analytics, behavioural indicators, prevention strategies

Submission Guidelines

  • The Organising Committee will look at the topic and quality of abstract when determining whether your abstract is accepted 
  • Due to the limited capacity of the program we regret that not all abstracts will be accepted 
  • Late submissions will not be accepted 
  • You'll need to create an account. If you have submitted an abstract before you may already have an account. You can use this account to submit multiple abstracts, or to review your submission 
  • Submissions may be uploaded as PDF or Word documents 

Presentation Guidelines 

  • It is a requirement that each session have at least one representative presenting in-person 
  • The Injury and Disability Schemes Seminar will take place from 17 – 18 November 2025. You will be allocated a date and time for your session 
  • Please note that concurrent presenters will not receive a complimentary registration.
